Life Learner Retreat

In-person, hands-on learning for people with vision changes

VIP Coaching In The Dark currently focuses on virtual support. For those seeking an in-person experience, Todd offers an immersive low vision retreat through Life Learner, a separate nonprofit organization. This small-group program provides practical, hands-on learning in a focused, in-person setting.

What This Program Offers

Each retreat supports a small group of 3–6 participants and is designed for people who learn best by doing. Through guided instruction and real-life practice, participants work on skills that support independence and everyday confidence.

Areas of focus may include:

  • Mobility and navigation
  • Daily living skills
  • Cooking and kitchen confidence
  • Communication strategies
  • Braille
  • Budgeting and financial basics
  • Games, leisure, and social connection

This is a fully immersive experience with time to practice, ask questions, and learn alongside others with similar needs.

Who is the program for?

  • People adjusting to vision changes
  • A friend, family member or care giver of the person adjusting to vision changes when attending the Couples Weekend Retreat.
  • Individuals looking to build practical, everyday skills
  • Those who prefer in-person, hands-on learning
  • People who want time, space, and guidance to practice in a supportive environment

Program Details

2026 Dates:

  • July 12th through 17th
  • August 2nd through 7th
  • September 13th through 18th
  • October 18th through 23rd
  • November 8th through 13th
  • December 6th through 11th

This is a fully immersive experience with time to practice, ask questions, and learn alongside others with similar needs.

Cost:

  • $250 (without housing)
  • $500 (with lodging included)

Scholarship support may be available for those who need it.

Life Learner is a nonprofit program focused on building real-world skills, confidence, and community through immersive retreats. The program is guided by experienced coaches and designed to support people in navigating daily life with vision changes.
